Double Sofa Bed
Double sofa beds are space savers in case you want to have extra space. They also become quick solutions in case friends or family have to crash for the night. This piece of furniture comes in different designs and styles. Some designs are perfect for living rooms while others can be placed almost anywhere else. The materials used to make sofa beds are designed for easy clean up.
What are Double Sofa Beds?
A double sofa bed is a type of couch, which is basically a generic term that people use to describe a piece of furniture that accommodates more than one person to sit on it. Like other couches, sofa beds usually have armrests on either end. These pieces of furniture can be placed almost anywhere in your home.
It is pretty common to find a couch in the living room. But if you put a sofa bed instead of a couch you are making a redefinition of the available living room space you once had. Other than the living room, you can put them in the den, family room, or lounge.
Kinds/Styles of Double Sofa Bed
There are basically four kinds of double sofa beds you can find in stores. They are fold out, flop out, Drop End, and the A-Frame. Of course, manufacturers have found ways to make other designs and styles. The following are descriptions of the basic four and the other newer designs sold in stores.
Fold Out: This might well be the most popular type or design of sofa bed you’ll find. These models usually have a spring mattress loading mechanism that folds out when you’re about to sleep on it. An additional pair of legs supports the base of the bed. In the morning, you can easily fold the bed and use it as a couch.
Flop Out: This is another popular design or type of sofa bed. It is also known as the flip over sofa bed. This model is made popular by the fact that it is pretty easy to use and set up. Switching from couch to bed and back is as easy as flipping out one side. All you have to do is to unfold one side and you’re ready to sleep. Some models have the back unfolding as well so that you have more sleeping space.
This type doesn’t have a separate mattress, which basically means the bed section folds out onto the floor. Many people find this type quite appealing to their little children. Older folks may not enjoy stooping down as low to as the floor just to get on a bed.
Drop End: Drop end sofa beds have at least one lever to convert from sofa to bed and vice versa. Depending on the design, drop ends can be converted to singles, chaise lounges, or a double sized bed.
A-Frames: With this model, both the back and the seat of the couch form the bed. Some models have storage spaces under the couch where you can put away your bed covers when you don’t need them.
Classic Sleepers: One of the more common styles of sofa beds is the classic sleeper. They come in twin sizes (also known as the love seat), queen sizes, and full sleepers, among many others. Classic sleepers, like other sofa beds, will be delivered with matching pillows and a built in headrest. Many stores will allow you to order classic sleepers in your desired fabric and style, which may include a classic 80’s or classic 70’s fashion, if you fancy something retro.
Comfort Sleepers: An interesting style is the comfort sleeper. They are also easy to set up, which requires pulling out the bed section to convert the couch to a bed. Some manufacturers incorporated a platform bed that is made of solid wood into their design. This makes the comfort sleeper quite sturdy in case you have more guests sleeping over. You can get comfort sleepers with either fabric or leather.
Inflatable Couch/Bed: Manufacturers have come up with a rather unique innovation, which is being able to carry around your sofa bed almost anywhere. Since inflatable couches/beds are easy to set up or pack, they can be a viable option for the outdoors. When deflated, you can carry them around in a bag. Some designs also double from couch to bed to a lounger.
Shopping Tips
Other than the price, one of the important things you should think about when buying a double sofa bed is the type of bed you’re going to get. Remember that not all sleep sofas can accommodate all guests. Some are better for younger guests while others are better suited for older folks. Another thing you should keep in mind is the size of the sleep sofa bed versus the standard bed sizes. Not all double sofa beds follow the standard bed sizes.
