Double Futon
Double futon mattresses are noted for their flexibility, as they can be used as a bed or a sofa. The type to buy depends on how you intend to utilize them. Besides your personal preference, there are guidelines that may help.
Frame Warranty
If you will be using it extensively, a minimum of 5 years warranty on the frame is recommended. If you can find a manufacturer that offers a 10 year warranty or higher, go for it. There are some manufacturers that only offer warranties up to three years. You should only buy these if the sofa bed will only be used on occasion.
Get a Thick Mattress
Double futon mattresses vary in thickness. Look for one that is as thick as possible. These are more expensive that the cheap ones, but they are worth it. Thin mattresses will not allow you to sleep comfortably.
Fabrics and Materials
The cheapest option is cotton but there are others available. They include cotton / wool, cotton / polyester blend, cotton / foam combination and a few others. The choice is up to you.
Unless you plan on moving the furniture often, buy the heaviest one available. Good choices would be 100% cotton, spring mattresses, or cotton / springs / foam mattresses. If you are interested in a light mattress, buy one composed of foam and cotton. One of the advantages of using this combination is that they do not sag and maintain their shape.
Another light mattress is one made of polyester and cotton. This mattress is soft and quite flexible. The softest mattresses are those made of wool and cotton. But remember that this mattress is not flexible.
Innerspring Mattress
The innerspring is constructed of a spring unit that is situated between the cotton and foam. This provides it with the feel of a classic mattress. But it is quite heavy. When it comes to everyday use, the cotton / polyester and cotton / foam are ideal.
Testing
Lie on the bed. Spread your weight and make sure you are comfortable. Look for another mattress if it feels lumpy. Whenever possible, look for frames that are made from yellow pine. Other materials are available. The double measures 54 inches by 75 inches, but other sizes are available.
After you buy the double futon mattress, it is a good idea to buy covers. You can use this to protect it from dust, dirt and other stains.
